PRE-FLIGHT
1. Check to see if appropriate documents are inside.
2. Control lock-Remove.
3. Trim tab-Neutral.
4. All electrical switches-Off.
5. Circuit Breakers-In.
6. Master switch-On.
7. Check operation of all light (night ops).
8. Flaps-Extended.
9. Fuel gauges-Check quantity.
10. Fuel valve-Check all positions, return to both.
11. Master switch-Off.
12. Note hobbs time.
Exterior Inspect and check the following:
1. Left wing sump-Drain.
2. Left side fuselage.
3. Left stabilizer and elevator.
4. Vertical fin and rudder.
5. Tail tie-down - Remove.
6. Remove gust lock if installed.Check underside of fuselage.
7. Right stabilizer and elevator.
8. Trim Tab-1/4 inch either way.
9. Right side fuselage.
10. Right flap; Right aileron; Right wing tip.
11. Leading edge; Wing tie-down - Remove.
12. Check fuel quantity visually - Secure cap.
13. Tire and wheel brakes.
14. Right wing sump-Drain.
15. Oil level: C-152:Min 5 qts,; X-C 6 qts.
C-172: Min. 6 qts,; X-C 7qts.; Full 8 qts.
16. Engine compartment; Main fuel starter drain belly drain if installed.
17. Windshield; Right cowling; Nose strut and wheel.
18. Propeller; Filter; Front of engine.
19. Left cowling; Left side nose strut and wheel.
20. Windshield; Under fuselage; check for oil leaks and wrinkles.
21. Static airvent, Left fuel cap - check.
22. Left wing leading edge; Pilot tube clear.
23. Stall warning; fuel vent; landing lights.
24. Left wing tip; Left aileron; Left flap.
25. Left tire and wheel brake.
26. Left wing tie down-Remove.
27. Load-Secure weight and balance satisfactory.
STARTING ENGINE
1. Seats- Adjust & Lock; Seat belt and shoulder harness fastened.
2. Radios-Off.
3. Electrical equipment-Off.
4. Brakes- Test & Hold.
5. Fuel vavle- On both.
6. Mixture- Rich.
7. Carburetor heat- Cold.
8. Primer- As required.
9. Throttle- Cracked 1/4 inch; Yell "CLEAR".
10. Master Switch- ON.
11. Ignition Switch- Start. Release when engine starts.
12. Throttle- Adjust 1000 rpm.
13. Oil preasure- Check.
14. Flaps- Up.
15. Nav lights, Rotating Beacon- as required.
16. Flight instrument- Set.
17. Transponder- STBY.
18. Radios- On.
19. Brakes- Test as aircraft moves.
WHILE TAXIING
1. Hold controls as necessary for wind.
2. Taxi path- Be sure it is clear or stop!
3. Magnetic compass- Check with known heading.
4. Airspeed indicator- Needle is on zero,
Pilot cover has been removed; Pilot heat checked.
5. Attitude indicator- the small aircraft is adjusted and does
not indicate any excess precession in turns- Max. 5 degrees.
6. Altimeter- Set to altimeter setting. Note any differance from
field elevation plus or minus 75' max.
7. Turn and slip indicator- Turn needle shows to the left and right.
Race is full of fluid and the ball moves freely in the race.
8. Heading indicator- Set with the magnetic compass.It is indicating turns to the right and left.
9. Vertical speed indicator- Needle is indicating zero or the error is noted.
10. Check alternate static selector.
11. Circuit breaker All in.
12. VOR'S checked and within limits.
BEFORE TAKEOFF CHECK
1. Park with nose gear straight- Throttle 1000 rpm.
2. Controls- Check for free and correct movement.
3. Trim tab- Set for takeoff.
4. Fuel- On both.
5. Mixture- Rich.
6. Primer- In & locked.
7. Throttle- 1700 rpm.
a. Oil preasure and temp.- Check.
b. Ammeter- Check with flaps or pilot heat.
c. Suction- Check.
d. Mags- Check (max drop 125 rpm, max 50 rpm differential bet. mags).
e. Carburetor heat- Check drop.
8. Throttle 1000 rpm.
9. Flight instruments- Set.
10. Check alternate static source.
11. Flaps- Set for takeoff (as required).
12. Doors and windows latched.
13. Lights and strobes as required.
14. Transponder- On Alt.
15. Radios and avionics- Set.
CRUISE
1. Throttle- 75% power or less.
2. Mixture- Lean for smooth engine.
BEFORE LANDING
1. Carb heat- Hot.
2. Fuel- Both tanks.
3. Mixture- Full rich.
AFTER LANDING
1. Clear runway- A/C under complete control.
2. Flaps- Up.
3. Carb heat- Cold.
4. Re-trim for takeoff.
5. Transponder- Off.
6. Landing light and strobes- Off.
7. Call ground control.
ENGINE SHUTDOWN AND LEAVING AIRCRAFT
1. Radios and all electrical switches- Off.
2. Throttle- 100 rpm.
3. Mixture- Idle cut-off.
4. Ignition switch- Off; Master switch- Off.
5. Strap elevator in up position when pushing backwards.
6. Control lock- Installed.
7. Tie down aircraft.
8. Write up hobbs time.
